Foodie Finds: Kanela Breakfast Club

Happy Sunday!! The Wicker Park area is such an awesome place to be, full of so many unique restaurants and small boutiques. I had been to this part of Chicago a couple of times, so when I found out Kanela Breakfast Club was there I got even MORE excited.

Holy yum!!! I have seen this place on countless blogs and instagram accounts about “Must Have Breakfast Spots in Chicago” so I figured it was about time I went and tried it out. This super relaxed and rustic setting was perfect for a chill Saturday morning. I always struggle with what to order because I am eternally conflicted between sweet and savory. Why can’t I just have both?! My sweet tooth took over and I ultimately went with the Kanela french toast. This was so so delish with a sweet lemon creme and apricot jam. I would totally recommend this meal but I do think I am going to order more on the savory side next time because I am #indecisive!! (maybe the breakfast sandwich??) just to see what that’s like.

I was also super surprised that there was no wait!! We called ahead to see the approximate wait time and they said it doesn’t typically pick up until 11-12 on Saturdays. We got there around 9:45, so while there were definitely still people there, we beat the brunch rush. The food came out quickly and we were done with our meal within an hour so we could go shop around!

Definitely try out this sweet spot in Wicker Park if you are a breakfast junkie like me. For sure the best meal of the day.

Foodie Finds: Goddess and the Baker

How I have lived in Chicago for over a year now and haven’t tried this place until last weekend is beyond me. Do you ever see something or walk into a place and just go, “WOW.” Because that’s how I felt when I stepped foot into Goddess and the Baker. I was amazed and completely taken aback. There was this amazing light up neon sign on one wall, a wall of windows on the next, and then a whole section of just pastry after pastry all lined up nicely in the case. The aesthetics were everything so it already had at least a 7/10 in my book. Now all that was left to try was the actual food and coffee. I had pretty high expectations from all of the reviews I had read prior to going. I was hastily looking up the menu on the train ride there trying to figure out my order ahead of time. Breakfast sandwiches, a burrito, oatmeal, açai bowls, parfaits, omelettes, avocado toast, you name it they had it. I opted for the “morning sandwich” and boy was I not let down. I was blown away with how good this sandwich was. I accompanied my breakfast with a vanilla latte and man was it a glorious combination. This brought my overall score up to a solid 10/10 would recommend.

Of course we had a photoshoot while we were there because pictures are memories and memories are everything.

So if you are in the Chicago area please please please check this place out, you will not be disappointed! And if you are, well blame me. BUT you won’t be, I promise.

Foodie Finds: Mahalo

What’s up everyone! Happy Sunday!! Now that I am back in Chicago I CAN NOT wait to keep discovering new restaurants and write about all of them for you! I know I did a foodie finds two weeks ago but I couldn’t help myself. Last week I went to an AMAZING and can I just say THE cutest restaurant in Wicker Park for brunch. I went for brunch with my CHAARG girls (and had the best time with them as always). Mahalo is a Hawaiian themed restaurant with the coolest atmosphere, yummy drinks, and GREAT food. We went for brunch and as usual I got breakfast because breakfast food is my favorite and I could eat breakfast for every meal. But quite a few of my friends did get lunch and got some delish looking poke bowls!! I got a YUM french toast dish with a bunch of traditional Hawaiian fruits on top and a refreshing virgin piña colada to drink. It did take quite a long time to get there on the train from my campus but if you are up for the trek or taking a car I highly recommend. It was definitely worth it! I plan on heading back to Wicker Park and spending a whole day there so I can see what other gems I can find. GO check it out! Here are some pictures from my brunch!

Foodie Finds: Livery

Happy Sunday! So just like I started out the summer with a Foodie Finds I am ending it with one as well. For my last night home in Indy I went out to dinner with my parents to Livery in downtown Indianapolis. My parents had been there before and had nothing but good things to say so I knew I needed to try it. Livery gives a fun contemporary twist on Latin American cuisine. We decided to order off of the Devour Indy Menu. As a part of this we each got to pick a starter, main course, and dessert. We went with the chicken and queso empanadas and a shrimp ceviche. The main courses consisted of a chicken and a beef tamale, and ribs and jicama. Dessert was out of this world with two small plates of churros and an apple flan. I am so content that this was my last meal in my hometown. It was not only great food but an unbelievable atmosphere. There was an incredible upstairs outdoor bar that I’m planning on having my 21st birthday at now (that’s how much I am IN LOVE with it). It was an over all flawless experience filled with great food, my parents who I literally don’t know how I could love them more, and an amazing atmosphere. SO thankful I got to experience this place as my last hoorah and will DEFINITELY be back again. Highly recommend 10/10.

Foodie Finds: The Northside Social

Hey friends! One of my first meals home from college was a dinner out with just me and my parents. They know all of the hot spots around Indy so I was so excited when they told me they had a new place for us to try. This amazing find in Broad Ripple left me so content. As most of you know, we like to order tapas style so we can get a little sample of everything. This night we decided to just get an appetizer, larger salad, and (of course) a dessert to split. My family isn’t too picky so we opted for these yummy Andoullie Mussels to start off. These were so so good served in white wine, garlic butter, tomato, and pickled peppers with pieces of sliced baguette to dip in the sauce. Our second selection was the Maple Salmon Salad. My favorite part of salads are all of the delicious toppings. This one came with a gorgeous fillet of salmon, golden raisins, red onion, granny smith apples, candied walnuts, cornbread croutons,  topped with a maple-balsamic vinaigrette. Last but not least, the Coconut Cake!! This was honestly one of the best cakes I have ever eaten. If you are into coconut this is so your type of dessert. It was a coconut cake with lime curd and a white chocolate-lime buttercream. The foodie in me was screaming. Totally recommend this place 10/10 loved it!

Foodie Finds: Sweetgreen

Happy Sunday, my pretty people! I am starting a new series on my blog that I am so excited about because it’s going to be all about one of my favorite things…food! Summer is a super fun time in the Kleck family. We love going out to eat, especially if they have outdoor seating. Soaking up the sun, with people you love, while eating?! It can’t get much better than that. This week’s starting foodie find is Sweetgreen! Upon recommendation from my lovely roomie, this salad sanctuary has easily moved up to the top of my of favorite quick serve restaurants in downtown Chicago. In this adorable and bright atmosphere you go up to the counter and pick out your lettuce, any toppings and dressing. You can even choose a light, medium or heavy amount of dressing that they toss right in front of you. These ingredients are all super fresh and was hands down one of the best salads I’ve had. I opted for a classic caesar to see what it would be like. I went with kale as my base and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not typically a huge kale fan but it was delicious. The real game changer was sweet potato. I randomly decided to throw that in just because I love sweet potatoes in any form and it totally made the whole meal. They also come with a yummy piece of bread that so effortlessly compliments the salad. It tastes like a kind of wheat sourdough? I also partnered my meal with one of the many fresh juices they have to offer. Mine was a cucumber, ginger, and lemon fresca. Super fresh and yummy. So this summer, if you’re on North State St. in River North (just a few blocks North of the Grand and State redline stop), check out this amazing new find of mine. Look forward to many more Foodie Finds while I’m in Chicago as well as Indy this summer! Hope you all have had an amazing weekend and go eat a big salad!!
