How to Get Out of a Rut

So we are almost a month in to the new year and I don’t know about anyone else but I am already losing motivation? Well, that happened quickly. Ruts happen to me all the time. A funk, rut, slump, whatever you want to call it, they stink and make you super unproductive. Nobody wants that. So I am going to tell you what I do when I start to get in a rut and need to get out of it because life goes on and it’s definitely not waiting for you to figure it out.

Try figuring out the problem 

This is tricky because they often come on pretty quickly. You can be feeling inspired one day and the next day BAM it’s just gone. You fall back into your same routines and you’re stuck. So start thinking about what could be making you feel this way. Something I have been working on is being AWARE of why I am feeling a certain way. Is there something that you’re doing that really just isn’t doing it for you anymore? Is there something you just really hate doing? Maybe that’s your problem. If you can’t figure it out right away don’t worry about it. Take your time, think about it, talk to a friend, or even write about it. I know that helps me 😉 lolololol

Remove the problem

Once you figure it out, you need to remove that reason why you’re feeling this way from your life. This is one of the hardest steps for me. Because doing this means that you’re putting your own happiness and well being BEFORE that relationship and that person, the certain thing thats bringing you down, or the comfort of your current situation. It means you have to get out of your comfort zone here and actually CHANGE the situation you’re in, and your way of looking at certain things, in order to change how you’re feeling. You can’t fully move on without completing this step. I am a strong believer in the idea of changing the way you see things in order for these things to change (refer to the top of this page and my mantra “if you aren’t obsessed with your life, change it.”), so if you can’t find a solid reason why you’re in a rut, maybe you can consider changing your outlook on life and having a more positive one.

Change it up

This can mean many things. What I immediately think of is your daily routine. I thrive on a schedule. BUT sometimes that schedule can be my downfall. I get into a rhythm and it becomes repetitive and just plain BORING. I don’t want my life to be boring and just feel like I am going through the motions. So switch it up, reorganize your room, start a new hobby, just something that will change your outlook on the outside so you can start changing your outlook on the inside. There is some switch that flips when you reorganize your furniture. Something in you that just says, “Well something is different here, so I must act differently.” It really does work and helps you change up your routine and mindset.

Rewrite your goals

Even if you aren’t physically writing your goals down with pen and paper, think about them and reflect. It is often needed to just go back and think why you even made that goal in the first place. Obviously you must have made it with the intent of accomplishing it. So establish what your goals were, maybe even add new goals, and start from there. A fresh list. A fresh start.

Take action

This part is always a hard one for me as well. You can think about all of this as much as you want but nothing is going to change unless you take action and work to improve your life. Ruts come often and definitely more than I would like. So take today or tomorrow and start thinking where you are and where you want to be. And most importantly, what the steps are you need to get there.

2018 GOALS

Happy 2018, friends! It’s already been a WHOLE WEEK of this year. Have you started off this year on the right foot? Even if that answer is a no, you still have plenty of time to turn it around. Here are some of my personal goals this year I am planning to focus on. I love setting goals for myself to set a fresh perspective. The new year is a great time for new habits, new beginnings, and new chances. What will you bring to this year? Who will you be this year? It’s up to you and only you.

ACADEMICS

  • take studies more seriously

How To Be A Girlboss 101: How to Crush Your Goals

Happy Sunday, besties!! It’s been another week so that means another blog post! Today I am writing to my fellow girlbosses on how to be a boss babe and crush your goals. This is such a fun topic for me to write about and always leaves me feeling so much more inspired than when I started. Check out these tips & go out and crush your Sunday!

Step 1: Write your goals down!

We all have goals, but they’re not going to amount to anything if they’re just sitting in the back of your head all day.

Make your goal(s) visible and tangible so you can see them every day and get pumped about working towards them. This is going to make them so much more real, and present than just occasionally thinking about them.

Some good ways to manifest your goals is to: 1. grab a pen and a paper and write everything down 2. Make yourself a vision board, these are powerful visual reminders to stay focused on what you want most (and get creative! they can be a lot of fun to make).

After you write a list or make some visual out of your goal write an action plan. Create a simple or an in depth step by step action plan of how you want to achieve your goal.

But go over your action plan frequently, adjust it accordingly so that you can succeed.

Step 2: Start taking baby steps.

What is something you can do each day to get you closer to your dream becoming a reality? Get in a routine which will push you forward towards your goal. If it helps, you can be accountable to someone or have someone you can report to and talk your goals over with. I personally keep a journal that I have my goals in. I outline what I need to do for the day or week, and write notes to myself on things I need to focus on the next day. Since I’ve started doing this my productivity has gone through the roof, and I’m a lot more organized.

Step 3: Get uncomfortable.

I am the LAST person who wants to do anything to make myself uncomfortable, but am the biggest advocate since moving to college. No one wants to be pushed. However, great things aren’t found in your comfort zone. You have to be willing to push your limits and really start doing the things that you’ve been too afraid to do. And yes it’s going to be scary at first and you are going to feel like a fish out of water. But that is how you are going to grow and see results.

What in your comfort zone is holding you back?  My challenge to you is to find your weak points, what makes you uneasy when you think about your goal? How can you change that weakness and harness it so that it becomes a strength?

Step 4: Don’t ever give up.

Do not get discouraged. Life is tough but my dear so are you, it’s time to kick your life in gear and take charge. Everyone is going to have setbacks, but what matters is that you get back up, and you throw another punch. Believe that you are a Boss Babe and you will be. You’ll be able to turn your weaknesses into strengths by trying, and not giving up.

Step 5: Get rid of your time wasters, and distractions.

What are the things in your daily life that are wasting your time? These could be anything that keep you from being productive such as apps on your phone, social media, TV shows, etc,. We are bombarded everyday with new ways to distract ourselves. The trick is being self aware and being able to realize that these things are sucking up hours of your day just trying to get to the next level (And it’s doing nothing for you!). I am the WORST at following this rule and really need to get better on this one.

Do yourself a favor, get rid of game apps on your phone, and other distractions. You will feel so much more free, and like you have a lot more time to achieve your goals.

It’s time to invest in yourself. Decide what is worth your time and what isn’t.

How to Be A Girlboss 101: Personal Branding

Happy Sunday, friends! First off, don’t worry this isn’t as boring and intimidating as it sounds. I have touched on this topic before and think it is crucial in your personal and professional life. This post came to me after I was in a “workshop” for my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and we were discussing the importance of branding as a chapter as well as an individual. As a marketing major, this is clearly a topic of interest for me. I have always found how others perceive me a real driving factor in how I live my life. Yes in how I look on the outside and other superficial reasons, but even more so how I come across to someone through in my character, personality, work ethic, and intention.

I am really proud of myself and how much I have grown just in the past year. I feel like I really have found my groove and know what I love and am passionate about. But it’s all about growth and whether or not you continue to grow. This is where personal branding comes into play. Whether it is in person, on social media, or elsewhere you want to be the most genuine and authentic version of yourself as possible. This means doing what you love with who you love and ultimately living your best life. I believe setting standards for yourself is the first step. Where is the bar going to be set? Evaluate who you are now…do you like who you are now? Are there things you want to change and don’t like? Now that you’ve done that, think about where you WANT to be. Think about it like this: Who is someone you idolize? Why do you idolize them? Probably because of how they act towards other people and portray themselves. So what can you do to make someone think that about you? Are you kind and loving and accepting? Are you willing to hear what others have to say? Are you smiling? It all has an impact on how people see you and whether or not they remember you. Be memorable. Stand out. Maybe be a little weird. Find your quirks and what makes you you! And BE PROUD! The one thing I am continuously finding out in this path of self discovery is it all comes down to confidence. If you are confident in yourself, other people will be confident in you.

It really is a fun process when you do begin to gain that confidence, find your passions, and become who you WANT to be. Because regardless of what you think, people are looking. Future employers, parents, friends, family, and even strangers. It all matters and it all has an impact. YOU make an impact on others, so make it a good one.

GYST DAYS: Getting Your Sh*t Together

Happy Sunday, friends!! I recently came across this on Pinterest and loved it so much I had to write about it. I have been doing something similar to this for a while now just without the creative acronym. As I am getting ready to go back to college this is exactly what I need. A “GYST” day can be described as one day in which you completely devote yourself to everything you have been putting off until now whether that is cleaning, taking care of yourself, getting in some extra work, or setting some goals. This list will be great for me as I move into my apartment in the next few weeks. You can do this whenever you want to but I always feel like Sundays are the best days as you can get everything ready for the week ahead. This way you have a clean slate and are ready to conquer the new week head on with nothing to worry about. I have always considered myself an organized person but even I do have things that slip through the cracks and need to be done. Hopefully you can customize this list to fit your needs and it will help you accomplish everything you need to get done and get back on track so you can be your best self.

How to Be A Girlboss 101: Controlling Your Inner Mean Girl

Happy Sunday loves! This is another new series I am starting on my blog, “How to Be a Girlboss 101.” Now that I am in college and doing more and more on my own I am determined to do whatever it takes to live my life how I want it to be. A girlboss is someone who is in charge of their own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it. The first step to becoming a girlboss is controlling your inner mean girl. Your inner mean girl is the side of you that tells you you aren’t good enough, not pretty enough, and can’t do everything that you need to do to become a girlboss and the best version of yourself. I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, but that doesn’t mean you let life happen to you. You are more than what your mean girl tells you. You must take control of your own future and not let your mean girl get in your way. Read books, listen to podcasts, watch ted talks. 2017 Goals

As the first official week of 2017 comes to a close, I have written out some of my personal goals for this year. For this year’s list of resolutions I tried to stick to “big picture” ideas instead of smaller things like not eating any junkfood, because that’s just not realistic. I want to make a practical and beneficial path for me to follow going forward. This is what I have come up with:

  • read books that remind me why I love to read
  • live a healthier lifestyle – physically & mentally
  • produce blog content I am proud of & become more consistent with my posts
  • drink more water to hydrate my body
  • be present in my day to day life & not worry so much about the past or future
  • keep my space clean, therefore my mind
  • take risks & push myself
  • explore new places in the city
  • cut the complaining & make less excuses
  • spend my money wisely & save
  • take advantage of the time I do have
